Reporting to the Director Infrastructure and City Services, the Manager Capital Works leads a team of Engineers and Project Managers responsible for managing the delivery of Council’s $65m capital works program. The role oversees 4 direct reports and a broader team of 45.

Applications are sought from candidates who bring experience in strategic thinking, people management skills,  management of the department, planning, design and delivery of projects and building works, with both practical and technical knowledge related to construction. Of critical importance is demonstrable expertise in problem solving of complex construction issues including access, design and contingency planning, as well as in managing multiple projects with conflicting priorities.

As an exciting growth area for Council, with a number of key high-profile projects in the pipeline, we are seeking an individual with the vision and leadership to drive this expansion whilst ensuring a high quality of delivery and continually seeking to raise the capacity and capability of the team.

Experience of the Local Government sector would be an advantage but is not essential. Your leadership skills, proven ability to embrace and drive change and highly developed political and commercial acumen will be of critical importance, as will outstanding communication skills and high levels of energy, integrity and resilience. Tertiary qualifications in civil engineering or similar are essential.
