Banyule City Council’s People and Culture team provide vital support to the entire organisation to enable the delivery of Council’s vision and strategic plans, positioning Banyule City Council as a leader in maintaining a high quality of services to provide the best possible opportunities and outcomes for the community they represent.

This exciting, diverse role provides a great opportunity for an experienced Risk & Assurance professional to lead Council’s Risk Management, Audit and Insurance functions. The role will provide expert advice to the Executive and Senior Management Teams, as well as to the Audit and Risk committee, working closely with Council’s internal auditors and Insurers.

Reporting to the Manager People and Culture and with two direct reports, this critical role is accountable for:
  • Leading and developing a team of Risk, Audit and Insurance Officers.
  • Provision of proactive, pragmatic and forthright Risk and assurance advice.
  • Identification, reporting and resolution of risk management activities.
  • Utilising Council’s assurance functions to assess and report on the effectiveness of Council’s critical controls.
  • Coordinating negotiation of Council’s insurance renewals in the best interests of Council consistent with Council’s risk appetite.
  • Leading Risk Management support of the various Risk & Audit Management & advisory Committees across Council.
  • Leading the coordination of Councils internal audit program and managing the Audit Action Register.
  • Preparation of the quarterly Risk Audit and Insurance data and quality analysis for the Executive that reflects Risk key performance indicators for the organisation.
  • Oversight of policy development within area of expertise and ensure policies are compliant, contemporary, and accessible and promoting a safe working environment.
  • Representing Council on matters before relevant Courts and Tribunals related to insurance issues where required
The successful applicant will have appropriate tertiary qualifications in and/or post graduate qualification in Risk Management or a related discipline, with significant experience in the development and implementation of Risk Management, Audit and Insurance procedures and strategies.

Knowledge of Insurance and insurance claims processes is critical, as is the understanding of organisational risk management, monitoring and reporting and understanding of the management of an Internal audit program.
