The role
The Development Manager is a pivotal role in VMCH’s Property division, taking on responsibility for managing high-end retirement living projects from conception to completion, focusing on financial viability and commercial success. This role involves close collaboration with the Senior Development Manager (SDM) to ensure all projects are ideated and briefed effectively and that development concepts are commercially viable from the outset. The role is dedicated to delivering innovative, best-in-class accommodation that enhances VMCH’s reputation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist with feasibility modelling to evaluate the viability of potential projects and help develop business cases and reporting for VMCH stakeholder endorsement
- Assist with analysis of market research and catchment demographics to inform project development strategies and structures
- Carry out due diligence processes for prospective opportunities
- Lead and manage high-end retirement living projects from inception to completion
- Coordinate with customers for personalised project requirements and ensure their satisfaction
- Oversee the continuous transition to the operational side of projects
- Ensure seamless project and construction management
- Engage in the master planning stage and coordinate agreements, presentations, and consultant engagements
- Collaborate with the SDM on investment modelling and project ideation. Prepare and submit planning documents for various projects
- Key external relationships: suppliers, contractors and consultants for the purposes of delivering targeted outcomes.
- Projects are delivered within a timely manner, within budget, to specification and to high quality standards
- Assist Senior Development Manager with feasibility, project ideation and potential site acquisition
- Assist the Senior Development Manager with tender, construction and refurbishment project phases
About you The successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience in managing multiple concurrent small to medium sized projects, with relevant qualifications expected in the form of a Bachelors degree, or a higher tertiary degree, in architecture, property development or project management.
Experience across projects in the Retirement Living, Residential Aged Care and/or Disability sectors would be beneficial preferred but not essential.
Applicants will be self-motivated, with a proven ability to work both autonomously as well as cooperatively in a team environment, with well-developed problem-solving skills and the ability to cope with conflicting demands and work priorities. Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills are mandatory to enable the ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organisation and with external stakeholders.
